Staff Technical Writer/Content Engineer
Position Summary
In this role you will work with cutting-edge software for power system analysis, simulation, and operation. You will develop detailed procedures, user manuals, technical and marketing write-ups, and scripts for video tutorials. You will collaborate with R&D engineers, marketing staff, business development, and other colleagues in various geographic locations, to understand the product positioning along with customers’ objectives and to document how to accomplish them.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Compile, edit, and author technical documents including data sheets, user manuals, application notes, product briefs, programmer's guides, software development guides, technical reference guides, white papers, etc.
- Analyze , compose and review technical and commercial brochures, case studies, presentations, and related materials
- Develop and maintain installation, configuration, training, how-to documentation, and online training programs
- Assist engineering personnel with the preparation of detailed technical proposals
- Prepare of preliminary and critical design review presentations and agendas. Participate in, and prepares minutes and action items of, all such meetings
- Complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, concise, style and terminology
- Interview staff to establish technical details in order to determine subject material
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content and methods of documentation
- Select and review drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts to illustrate processes procedures and technical schematics
- Review existing documents, specifications and operating procedures
- Edit, standardize, and/or make changes to material previously prepared
Qualifications
- Application software requirements: Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe WebWorks, ROBOHelp, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Visio, and other publications programs
- Good planning, organizational, and time management skills. Understand software and hardware development cycles and deliveries and have a flexible approach and team effort in a fast-paced environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering and manufacturing fundamentals / requirements; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Demonstrated effectiveness working across organizational levels and with cross-functional teams that include customers, production, engineering and senior management
- Superior organizational and time-management skills; demonstrated effectiveness managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong problem solving and independent decision-making; demonstrated thoroughness and attention to detail
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of ETAP Software
- Management experience is a plus
Education
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years technical writing experience required
