This document provides a step–by-step installation of ETAP 5.5.6.  After installation, ETAP 5.5.6 may prompt you for an Activation Code the first time you run the software. This 36-character activation code is located on the ETAP CD sleeve. If you are upgrading from the previous release of ETAP, the activation code can be found on your existing ETAP CD sleeve.

 

System Requirements

Hardware Requirements - Recommended

 500 Bus Projects

  • Intel Pentium IV – 2.0 GHz or equivalent
  • 1 GB of RAM

2000 Bus Projects

  • Intel Pentium IV – 3.2 GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology, or equivalent
  • 1 GB of RAM (RDRAM or high-speed DDR RAM)

10000 Bus Projects and Higher

  • Intel Pentium IV – 3.0 GHz with Hyper-Threading (or dual core), or equivalent
  • 2 GB RAM (RDRAM or high-speed DDR RAM)

Real-Time Application - Server

  • Intel Pentium Xeon – 3.2 GHz with Symmetrical Multiple Processing (DUAL) with Hyper-Threading (or Dual-Core), or better, and high-speed system bus or AMD equivalent
  • 2 GB RAM (RDRAM or high-speed DDR RAM)

PC Configuration & Peripherals

  • Parallel Port, USB Port, or Serial Port (for Stand Alone Licensing only)
  • CD-ROM or DVD Drive
  • 5 to 80 GB Hard Disk Space (based on project size, number of buses)
  • 19” Monitors Recommended (dual monitors highly recommended)

Operating System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) Professional or Server
  • Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Professional or Home Edition
  • Microsoft Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)

Other Software Requirements

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher
  • Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 

Installing ETAP 5.5.6

  • To install ETAP 5.5.6, you must have administrative access to your computer or administrator credentials when prompted on Windows Vista.
  • Close all applications and insert the ETAP 5.5.6 CD, dated August 2007, into your CD-ROM drive.

ETAP installer will prompt you if previously installed version(s) of ETAP are detected.  You have the choice to either uninstall the existing ETAP version(s) or continue with the current installation without removing the existing version(s). It is not necessary to remove the existing installation(s) of ETAP.

Installation of ETAP requires installation of the ETAP 5.5.6 License Manager and ETAP 5.5.6.

1. Installing ETAP 5.5.6 License Manager
    1.1 ETAP Installer will start up and present the following screen. Select the desired application to be installed.
    • ETAP
    • ETAP Real-Time Server
    • ETAP License Manager

1.2 Select ETAP License Manager and click install to continue.

Installation of the ETAP License Manager 5.5.6 is required for the following licenses:

    • ETAP Stand Alone License, using the USB Key – ETAP-OTI 1600.
    • ETAP Network License

For the Stand Alone license, the ETAP application, License Manager, and USB key must be installed on the same PC. 

With the Network license the License Manager and key are installed on a server PC and ETAP is installed on the client PC.  However, the Network license has the option to install the ETAP application, License Manager, and key on the same PC.

To continue with the installation instructions first identify the type of license you are using.  A label on the key identifies the key as “Stand Alone” or “Network”.

Previous versions of the ETAP License Manager will be detected by the install and should be uninstalled from the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

 

If necessary, this message can be bypassed by running the Setup from the Run command and using the /z”force” command.  The example below assumes the D: drive is the CD ROM.

 

ETAP Setup displays the ETAP License Manager Welcome dialog box for version 5.5.6.  Click the Next button to continue.  Be sure to remove any ETAP hardware keys from the computer.

 

The ETAP License Agreement is displayed.  By clicking Yes you accept the terms of the Agreement.

 

The Setup displays the default path to install the ETAP License Manager. Click Browse to select a different path or click Next to continue.

 
The Setup requests the type of key you are using.  The default key is the USB Key – ETAP-OTI 1600 key.  Select a different if necessary and click Next to continue.
 

The Setup has enough information to begin the installation.  Click Next to begin the file transfer.

 
The Setup will show the progress of the installation.
 
The Setup prompts to plug in the ETAP hardware key.  Windows may or may not be able to load the drivers when the key is plugged in.  Click Finish after plugging in the ETAP hardware key.
 

The Setup will attempt to start the ETAP License Manager (referred to in the Services control panel as Etaps Lic Mgr).  This process may take a few seconds.

The Setup is complete if the service starts successfully.  No reboot of the PC is necessary.

The Setup will notify the user if the service was not able to be started.  An informational message will be shown the Application Event Log stating in detail why the service could not be started.
 
Setup will then prompt to restart the PC.
 

2. Installing ETAP 5.5.6

2.1 Close all applications and insert the ETAP 5.5.6 CD into your CD-ROM drive.

ETAP installer will prompt you if previously installed version(s) of ETAP are detected.  You have the choice to either uninstall the existing ETAP version(s) or continue with the current installation without removing the existing version(s). It is not necessary to remove the existing installation(s) of ETAP.

2.2 ETAP Installer will start up and present the following screen. Select the desired application to be installed.

  • ETAP
  • ETAP Real-Time Server
  • ETAP License Manager (for Network users)

Select ETAP and click Install to continue.

 

ETAP 5.5.6 installation will begin with the self-configuration of the Windows Installer as shown in the following screen.

If the installation program does not detect the Microsoft.NET v1.1 Framework components in the operation system, ETAP 5.5.6 Installation continues with the setup of the .NET Framework components.

 

2.3 Click Next on the Welcome screen to continue.

 

2.4 The installation and use of ETAP is governed by the terms and conditions of the ETAP License Grant and Agreement. These terms must be accepted before the installation can continue. Click Next.

 

2.5 The installation screen displays hardware and software requirements as well as other useful information. Click Next to continue with the installation.

 

2.6 Setup requires the name of a destination folder on your hard drive where you would like the ETAP 5.5.6 application to be installed. The default destination folder is C:\ETAP 556. To install the program in a different location, click Browse and select or type a new destination folder. Click Next.

 

2.7 Select the type of installation to be completed. Note that the default choice is "Typical." Click Next to continue with the installation.

 

2.8 The Start Copying Files screen provides the opportunity to verify the setup information. If the setup information is correct, click Next to continue the installation.

 

2.9 Windows 2000 users will be required to restart their computer. Select the "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." option and click Finish. Windows XP users will not be asked to restart their computer.

 
An ETAP 5.5.6 program shortcut is placed on the desktop when the installation is complete.

ETAP License Wizard

1. When you launch ETAP 5.5.6, the ETAP License Wizard prompts you to choose between a Stand Alone Key or Network Key.

You MUST select Network Key regardless of whether your ETAP configuration is for a Stand Alone or Network license.

 
2. If a Network Key is used, the computer name or IP address of ETAP License Server must be specified. For a Stand Alone key enter a period ("."). Click Next to continue.
 
3. Upon successful detection of the key, click Finish to complete the ETAP License Wizard.
 
4. After installation, ETAP 5.5.6 may prompt you for an Activation Code the first time you run the software
