Graphical Animation of System Response

ETAP 5.5

ETAP 5.5 will automatically be shipped to users with a valid ETAP Upgrade and User Support Contract (UUC).

ETAP 5.5 is a major release delivering new capabilities to significantly enhance your power system analysis experience while making the process faster and easier.

This release offers graphical animation of system response for Protective Device Operation, Control System Logic, and Dynamic Response Operation with more flexible configuration options and greater display.

New features include Configuration Manager, ETAP Preferences, License Administrator, and Theme Manager. Other new capabilities have been implemented in this release to enhance existing modules such as cable sizing based on short-circuit, relay test-set interface for ETAP Star, get-set property defaults for elements, sag and tension for unequal towers, and output report navigation.

More than 15 modules have been significantly enhanced and upgraded, including Advanced Relay Testing and Transient Simulator, Arc Flash, Battery Discharge and Sizing, Ground Grid Systems, and Harmonic Analysis. Enhancements were also made in ETAP Real-Time PSMS, EMS, and ILS.

2006 Annual Nuclear Utility User Conference (NUUC)

The 6th annual ETAP Nuclear Utility User Conference (NUUC) was held June 19-21 at the ETAP Learning Center in Irvine, California with 30 ETAP nuclear users in attendance. The program included a variety of user presentations demonstrating ETAP success stories and best practices. Click here to view the program. We look forward to another successful event next year at the 7th annual conference June 19-21, 2007 followed by the symposium on June 22nd.

ETAP NUUC 2006

OTI continues to make inroads with nuclear generation facilities worldwide, having added two additional sites: Iowa-based Duane Arnold and Illinois-based LaSalle County. These new additions mean that 46 out of 64 (72%) U.S.-based Nuclear Generation plants have standardized on ETAP. One of the many reasons for the popularity of ETAP among nuclear generation plants is OTI’s unmatched quality assurance program, which is dedicated to meeting dozens of standards and requirements. ETAP Arc Flash Gets High Marks at Canadian Seminar

ETAP Arc Flash Seminar - Canada

More than 150 people headed to Calgary, Alberta to attend the ETAP Arc Flash Power System Analysis Seminar, a one-day crash course on the use of ETAP to perform Arc Flash and related studies. Led by Terry Becker, P.Eng, of EnCana and Darcy Braun, M.Sc., P.Eng., of ETAP Canada, Ltd., the event covered the regulatory changes occurring in Canada and the changes some organizations are making to their electrical safety programs.

The seminar also marked the introduction of the Electric Arc Hazard Committee, a volunteer group of industry representatives working together to review regulations and standards to come up with baseline consensus-based best practices for electrical safety. The event was sponsored by QIP2 (a Magna IV Calgary Ltd. Company), EECOL Electric, and Optimum Energy Products Ltd. Click here for more information on ETAP Arc Flash.

Module Spotlight: ARTTS Relay Test-Set Interface

Advanced Relay Testing & Transient Simulator (ARTTS) is a powerful combination of relay test-set hardware and protective device evaluation software that is seamlessly integrated to provide a complete relay-testing and simulation package. With ARTTS, ETAP users can simulate the actual relay response under steady-state and transient fault currents and compare the captured relay response with that of the manufacturer’s published curve.

ARTTS Relay Test-Set Interface

In addition, users have the capability to observe and analyze deviations from nominal values and relay mis-operations. The graphical interface makes setup easy and all historical tests can be retrieved for plotting and comparison. Click to read more.

FAQ: What are the most common roadblocks to finding Fault Clearing Time?

FAQ

ETAP automatically calculates fault currents and Fault Clearing Time (FCT) to determine incident energy. In some cases, users receive a message that reads “FCT not determined". This FAQ covers the most common roadblocks to finding the FCT in arc flash calculations. Click here to view this FAQ.

OTI's Corporate Office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 in observance of the 4th of July holiday.
